the big read annapolis - the great gatsbyAnnapolis Alive! presents The Great Gatsby party, hosted by Sarles Boatyard and Marina owner Deb Smith.

“Come celebrate Annapolis’ history and literacy with The Great Gatsby,” she said, as she outlined preparations for the party tomorrow:

The marina is undergoing transformation right now to become the Gatsby mansion, complete with vintage cars and boats, great food and drink, and 1920s music.

Party goers will pass a vintage car and enter via a red carpet and “movie” lights, and will party in the “Gatsby Gardens” tent where they will find champagne and chocolate fountains amid white lights and greenery and a one-of-a-kind ice sculpture featuring flowers and feathers.

Guests may then proceed to the “Pool House,” where an array of books of the era will be available for purchase. In the “Cotton Club” guests can dance the night away to the music of the Original Crabtown Stompers who will delight with music of the 1920s. Many vintage boats will be in the water at the marina, adding to the Gatsby ambiance.

And throughout, servers from Tapenade and the Federal House, in “flapper” dress, will offer fabulous food!

For the adventurous, the “Speakeasy” will be open (if you know the password), where those who have brought their own hooch in flasks can gather. But beware, the doors will be guarded by a couple of tough 1920s “gangsters.”

Attendees must be in the proper "dress" of the time.
