Annapolis Alive! News - January 11, 2008
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Fellow Annapolitan,
Please join me this Sunday at "Lift Every Voice," a celebration of the life of Martin Luther King Jr. and concert. Several gospel choirs will lift their voices in song for the occasion and the free event will end with a dramatic reading of Dr. King's famous "I Have a Dream" speech. It promises to be a moving and joyous event — perfect for a Sunday afternoon.
There are several other exciting events planned for January, but I would like to bring to your attention the Annapolis Alive! signature event, Travel Through Three Amazing Centuries, on Sunday, January 27. Held at Westfield Annapolis, the event features music by Leon Redbone and Raw Hands and the participation of Baltimore Raven Matt Stover and local sailing ambassador Gary Jobson. Read all about it below and on our website.
Other January events include the Anne Arundel County Trust for Preservation's lecture series, the Annapolis Area library's Book Banter, the Annapolis Maritime Museum's maritime lecture series, the Historic Annapolis Antiques Show, and several children's events. Read more...
You may have heard our radio announcement of The Big Read coming up this spring. We'll have more details soon on this exciting citywide reading of the classic The Great Gatsby this spring. Please have a look at our website for more information on The Big Read.
Don't forget our radio show every Tuesday at 2 p.m. on 1430 WNAV to stay up to date.
Cheers,
Annapolis Alive! Travel through Three Amazing Centuries will be first major public event in 2008 to celebrate the signing of Annapolis’ charter. This three-hour cocktail party will feature top name celebrities: Ram’s Head favorite Leon Redbone, and the local R&B group Raw Hands, Annapolis Sailing ambassador Gary Jobson, and the Baltimore Ravens' Matt Stover.
The brand new section of the Westfield Annapolis will be transformed for a community-wide 2008 kick-off of the Annapolis Charter 300 Celebration. This one-of-a-kind cocktail party will be complete with terrific entertainment and food and specialty beer & wine tastings.
The evening will be accented by interactive displays that commemorate Annapolis’ success over the past 300 years. Among these displays will be the best of Annapolitan art, photography, maritime & culture. Guests will be able to participate in exclusive shopping through the centuries as they peruse old-fashioned kiosks, as well as some of Westfield’s newest stores.
In case the food, fun, entertainment and shopping aren’t enough, there will also be gift give-aways, door prize raffles and a silent auction!
