Dear Fellow Annapolitan,

chuck weikelHappy New Year! Have you seen our calendar of events? What a year this is going to be!

In January alone we are planning a celebration of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with readings and music, a lecture on a former Royal Governor of Maryland, a book discussion on a historic colonial figure, the Annapolis Antiques Show, several children's events, the next enVISIONing Annapolis conversation, and Travel Through Three Amazing Centuries – an Annapolis Alive! Signature Event – featuring local celebrities, musicians and national entertainer Leon Redbone. Whew! And that's just January!

Read more below and check out our website for more information about these and other Annapolis Alive! events and listen to our radio show every Tuesday at 2 p.m. on 1430 WNAV to stay up to date.

Cheers,

Annapolis Alive! Travel through Three Amazing Centuries will be first major public event in 2008 to celebrate the signing of Annapolis’ charter. This three-hour cocktail party will feature top name celebrities; Annapolis Sailing hero Gary Jobson, nationally known Ram’s Head favorite Leon Redbone, and the local R&B group, Raw Hands

The brand new section of the Westfield Annapolis will be transformed for a community-wide 2008 kick-off of the Annapolis Charter 300 Celebration. This one-of-a-kind cocktail party will be complete with terrific entertainment, as well as food and specialty beer & wine tastings.

The evening will be accented by interactive displays that commemorate Annapolis’ success over the past 300 years. Among these displays will be the best of Annapolitan art, photography, maritime & culture. Guests will be able to participate in exclusive shopping through the centuries as they peruse old-fashioned kiosks, as well as some of Westfield’s newest stores.

In case the food, fun, entertainment and shopping aren’t enough, there will also be gift give-aways, door prize raffles and a silent auction!

The proceeds from the auction will go to the Chesapeake Children’s Museum for scholarships to be awarded to students (public, private and home school) for historical Annapolis field trips.
