Pressures, Progress, and Choice: Development and Quality of Life in Annapolis
Tuesday, October 23, NEW VENUE: Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase Street, Annapolis, 7 p.m.
Cities that grow by suburban sprawl strangle on traffic congestion and air pollution, eroding the quality of life that should be a major asset of cities. John Frece, Associate Director of the National Center for Smart Growth, University of Maryland, looks at population and density projections in the greater Annapolis area in his talk entitled “Relevant Lessons and Insights from the Reality Check Process.” William Morrish, the Elwood R. Quesada Professor of Architecture, University of Virginia, explores how great urban design can contribute to livable cities in his talk, “Metropolitan Design and why it is so critical for 21st Century Realities.” All “Conversations” are free and open to the public. This series of public Conversations is sponsored by the Envisioning Annapolis Foundation, St. John’s College, and Annapolis Charter 300. For more information and links to the Envisioning Annapolis Foundation, see our website.
300 Tapestry Project
An Annapolis Alive! Signature event, the 300 Tapestry Project will create three large tapestries and several smaller pieces depicting 300 years of Annapolis’ development. They will be displayed throughout the city. The project is community based and all are welcome to stitch under the guidance of a skilled needlepoint craftsperson. Read more on our website.
